Dear Supporters and Friends of the Anthony V. Martin Charitable Foundation,
With gratitude for your continued support of our mission to protect and care for animals, we would like to share a heartwarming tribute organised by our friends at the Southern Thailand Elephant Foundation (STEF) to commemorate the legacy of our beloved trustee, Michael Freedman.
Michael's unwavering dedication to our cause and his profound love for animals have left an indelible mark on our foundation and the world of animal welfare. We have already shared the news of Michael's passing, and in this blog, we would like to celebrate his memory through a beautiful tribute.
Andrew, Chairman of STEF and a dedicated member of our community, was at his elephant sanctuary in Southern Thailand to honour Michael's memory in a truly remarkable way.
During his visit, Andrew, along with Dr. Siraya Chunekamrai, a renowned figure in the veterinary world, paid tribute to Michael by naming a magnificent Banyan tree at STEF's Vet Centre in his memory. The Banyan tree holds immense cultural significance in Thailand, believed to be the very type of tree under which Buddha found enlightenment. It grows rapidly in the tropical conditions of Thailand, reaching towering heights with a wide, dense canopy, and can live for centuries—a fitting tribute to a man whose legacy will endure.
The decision to place the memorial on this tree symbolises not only Michael's profound impact but also the enduring bond between our two organisations, united by a shared mission to protect and care for animals. The Foundation’s swift response earlier this year when urgent support was needed to install mains electricity on STEF's site showcases their commitment to making a difference.
We invite you to view the photos and video from the naming ceremony below, which capture the essence of this heartfelt tribute. The words of Dr. Siraya and our chief vet, Dr. Aon, reflect the depth of appreciation for Michael's contributions and the enduring spirit of collaboration that binds us all together.
We hope that Michael's family and our Trustees will find solace in this beautiful commemoration of a very special man, whose legacy will continue to inspire us in our mission. As always, we extend an open invitation to visit STEF's site to witness firsthand the incredible work being done for animals in need.
With gratitude for your unwavering support,
The Anthony V. Martin Charitable Foundation
Inspired by the dedicated teams and individuals who make a difference in the world, we continue our work in Michael's memory.
